Tips to Stay Warm in Bangladesh in Cold Weather

How to Stay Warm in Cold Weather without a Heating SystemHow to Stay Warm in Cold Weather without a Heating System

Bangladesh experienced its lowest temperature in 40 years on January 10, 2013. The temperature fell to 3 degree Celsius in northern parts of Bangladesh. Bangladesh is a tropical country, so the homes and buildings are not equipped with any heating systems and the population is not used to coping with such extreme weather. Today, I will go over some simple tips to tackle cold weather in your home.

Keep Your Head Warm – Everyone concentrates on wearing warm sweaters or jackets, but hardly anyone pays attention to warming up their head. A while ago the University of Victoria, BC, Canada detected through thermal imaging that the major heat loss areas in our body are our heads, necks, and chests. Cover these parts with warm clothes and you will feel much warmer.

Check Your Windows – Makes sure your windows close properly. Check the doors as well, and keep an eye out for any holes or cracks in the wall. Try to insulate with an insulator or something that can stop the air coming in such as plastic or even fabric, and seal up any gaps and cracks.

Use Heavy Curtains – Using heavy curtains helps lock heat inside.

Reposition Furniture – Repositioning heavy furniture like bookcase, sofas, etc. against the wall or window helps to shield cold from coming in.

Drink Hot Beverages – Drinking hot beverages such as tea, hot chocolate, or even plain hot water helps to keep stay warm in winter.
